We’re hosting a special webinar on September 19, 2020 in India at Publicis Sapient on “The Future of Technology, Design, and Business” at 5PM IST. The goal is to share a few of our perspectives on how our approach to Digital Business Transformation is uniquely propelled by the power of experience design. We will be covering the following topics within a short 1-hour session:

  • Connection of business with design
  • Connection of design with computation
  • History and future of design as “three kinds of design”
  • A rapid introduction of computational design and LEAD
  • A peek into Publicis Sapient’s inclusive ways of working

DESIGN to DE$IGN

In 2015, John Maeda presented the first Design in Tech Report at SXSW in Austin, Texas USA which facilitated the then growing discussion around the business value of design in the technology industry.

Computation: An Alien Life Form?

Just watch David Bowie talk about the Internet in 1999 and you quickly understand that he may have been an alien himself :+).

Three Kinds of Design

Design is a poorly designed word, and so it’s useful to divide its definition into roughly three categories of usage.

  1. classical design, which pertains to the design of objects we use in the physical world,
  2. design thinking, which pertains to how organizations learn how to collaborate and innovate using ideation methods, and
  3. computational design, which pertains to any kind of creative activity that involves processors, memory, sensors, actuators, and the network.

The third kind of design requires the ability to “speak machine” — which is not an easy task without the basic vocabulary of a computer science person.

On LEAD

We use a straightforward approach to creating great experiences for our clients. It’s immediately obvious to anyone who encounters it, and you can learn more about it here. If you use it, please be sure to credit Publicis Sapient when doing so — and tell us how you improve it by at-signing us on Twitter.

Community Code of Conduct

At Publicis Sapient we are especially conscious of the challenges that exist when working together online. For that reason, in 2019 we drafted our Communication Code of Conduct to govern how we behave and treat each other when engaging within our digital channels.

The Short Version: Be a Good Human.

  • We think before we type. We avoid language (and actions) that are discriminatory, hurtful and that exclude others. We remember that there are human beings on the other end of our words.
  • We welcome diversity in the form of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, all forms of disability and ability, appearance, race, ethnicity, religion or lack thereof, socioeconomic background, educational background, military and veteran status, and location.
  • We are harassment-free. We have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to discriminatory language or jokes, personal insults, threats of violence and unwelcome sexual attention.

Your welcome to use our CCOC by forking it for your own use. If you like it, please give it a Github star!

Appendix: The LEAD Cheatsheet

When you combine our 625+ shades of “Designer” system with LEAD, you’re able to get a sense of how difficult it is to make an amazing digital experience. But that’s what we do every day for our clients. Amazing, right?
